The First day of Summer June 21, 2015

Catspaw Dinghy interior

Catspaw Dinghy

It’s a rainy day and I’m breaking my rule and working in the shop and at my desk. “If you work Sunday’s then Mondays just another damn day”. That’s the rule, but, Saturday was beautiful, cool and sunny so I spent the day working in the garden and bike riding. When you work for yourself you have the option of sometimes flipping the days around to fit the weather.

I spent this past week installing a kitchen for a client in Portland. Still a few details to take care of but that job will be wrapping up in the next few days. I’ve taught my first class of the season, ‘Finishing out Small Boats’ at the WoodenBoat School. It was a new offering for me and I worked with and taught students as we took care of the interior details on 3 boats in various stages of completion.   One of the boats was Jessie, a school built Catspaw Dingy bound for the school waterfront. I hope to take her out for a row next spring.

My next class will be the Boatbuilders program at Chewonki in early July. I’ve got the parts for 8 Willow Kayaks in the shop now and I’ve started to prep for that full week while juggling a few other tasks. As fun as the summer is I’m already looking forward to a bit of down time. In September?

I’ve not had much of an opportunity to sit down and write but I have been exploring and really enjoying instagram. You can check those post out at instagram.com/billthomasmaker/
