This winter finds me taking a new tack, a new direction in my work, but it's a logical one.
For the next few months I’ll be focusing exclusively on building out a custom camper van for a client. It makes sense, spending time outdoors is what I’ve built my life around along with boatbuilding, woodworking and designing custom projects. These van buildouts neatly combine all those skills and interests into one project. A culmination really of more than 40 years spent as a designer and maker.
It will also be nice to focus on just one project, albeit a complex one, to work in the shop each day with a clear focus. I’m looking forward to using my skills and knowledge and to learning new skills. If you want to follow the van build I’ll be posting a weekly up date here on instagram. @billthomasvanmaker
I have seven weeks of teaching lined up for late winter and on into August. There are also several cabinet projects and a Toyota HiAce camper build out waiting in the wings. These projects might just easy me into the next thing. A slower pace, less work and more time outside. But, we’ll talk about that another time. The next 9 months are looking pretty busy.
